The Fence

It's been quite a while since we posted anything here, so I'll try to get a things updated.

First off, we'll show off the fence that we put in.  We put in the fence so the dog could come around front and keep the cats out of the yard.  It also let us take down the beautiful blue fence that was next to the house.

The fence is a combination of tan vinyl and clay colored "DuraGrain", a high density polyethylene product.  The neat thing about this fence is that it is the only one of it's kind.  We did a custom run of product in this color at work to beta-test it.  I liked the color personally, but we didn't see the marketability of the product that would justify mass production, so I picked up the bit we ran and built our fence out of it.

I'm real happy with the result.

The living room is now complete!

We put up the trim around the bottoms and the doors...and put in carpeting!

You can see the beautiful trim and carpet.

The living room is done...well, almost

We just finished the walls and ceilings in the living room and dining room. Still have to do the floors, but we'll take a break before we take that plunge.

We don't have any good before pictures (lost the camera for a while), so here are some earlier pics of Keely that show the walls and floor in the background:

This is what the walls looked like. Beautiful green and salmon.

I just like this pic. It does show the ugly textured carpet, though.

Here's another pic of the walls (in the background, of course)

Initially, we were just going to strip wallpaper and paint, but after we tore out half the old wallpaper, we realized that it was more trouble than it was worth. We also realized that the cracks in the walls would eventually come back. So, we decided to drywall, then paint.

Here's one of me muddin' (could stand to go a while without doing that again)

Here's a pic of the walls once they were mudded.

Here are the windows taped and the walls primed.

It was a ton more work that I initially anticipated, but I like the finish product.

As you can see, the floor still needs to be done, but we'll get to that once we've forgotten how hard it was to do everything else.

Carpet!!!

We got carpet put in the bedrooms the other day - a month ago ;-)

It's kind of nice to not get splinters in your feet from walking around in the rooms. Keely seems to like it, too.

Here's a before of our bedroom. Nice old splintery hardwood.

Here's a before of Keely's room. The wood was a bit smoother here, but Keely needs something soft to crawl on.

Here's the pads half in.

All done. Just have to trim the doors and put them back on. (We did that a month ago)

Keely's room's all done, too.

The master's done!

Nikki and I finished the master bedroom today. We painted the trim creme (the color's actually called rice cake).

I also took all the hinges, door knobs, and handles off of everything in the room, stripped the paint off of them, and shined them up. They look pretty nice. We found a nice light fixture at the hardware store, too.

I also hung a mirror that Nikki found at the yard sale.

All in all, we spent about 250 bucks to fix it all up.

Half painted

The master bedroom is half painted now. We put down a coat of "caboose red", which is actually a burgundy color. It looks nice. It'll look better once we paint all the trim a creme color.

I also changed the light switch to a dimmer switch.

Nikki and I decided to put in a floor outlet as well. The other day we took down the baseboard heater and ended up with some wires coming up out of the floor. Rather than just cut the wires and put them away I put in an outlet instead.

Master bedroom progress

Nikki and I primed the master bedroom today. Tomorrow we're going to paint it. I think it'll end up looking pretty nice. I also took all of the hinges and handles from the built in wall-closet/dresser and stripped the paint off them and polished them up. They'll look a bit better.
